Charity Work of Tu Thien Tam Tu group in 2008

I feel so bad that I haven't updated this site for such a long time... for over a year to be more exact. Anyhow, no update doesn't mean we didn't have any trips or activities. On the contrary, our Tu Thien Tam Tu group never ceases to offer help and support to the needy people.

As I don't have much time to write detailed recaps for all of our activties in year 2008, I am going to post some photos for you to enjoy and hope the photos will help tell the story. Some of the activies we had in year 2008 are:

January 20, 2008 - Trip to Tam Binh center (where they shelter people of mental illnesses)

Recap on the event

The event was successful though it was the most tiring trip ever that we have had. Since the places are quite far and in a remote area, we spent most of our time on the road. We visited 2 different places: Hoàng Tử Bé (Little Prince) school and a small village in a remote place in Đồng Nai province.

We departed at 0630 in the morning, had breakfast in the van and arrived at Hoàng Tử Bé at around 0800. The childrean were in a mass when we arrived. When they heard that we came, they all rushed out to greet us. The pastor had to let them go and only continued preaching once the crew all sat down with the kids. After they are done with their mass, Ms. Nga (the school master and owner, who makes a living by writing novels) introduced us and had them sing songs and play games to welcome us. It was very cool and touching seeing some disabled and disavantaged kids trying their best to participate. When everyone seems to get familiar with each other already, we started to give gifts to the kids. They really love the gift, especially the notebook as it's one of the hardest thing to find and to buy from where they live. Everyone in the group was very happy to see how the kids love what they were given.

1030, we said goodbye to the children at Hoàng Tử Bé school, the crew and Ms.Nga and Quyên got on the van and traveled to Thác Mai. It was a long and uncomfortable trip due to the bad condition of the road. We finally arrived there at 1220. What made me almost cry is to see the very young kids running after the van to the appointed place under the bright and hot sun. It was heart-wrenching to learn from the village head that the kids had waited all day Saturday for the crew as they were informed we would come on Saturday. The kids had waited since 6AM until 5PM, and some of them even skipped meals because they didn't want to miss the chance. As the village is in the remote area with no electricity and telephone, no communication could be made. Poor those little kid. After we finished giving out the gift to the kids, we stopped at a house of the head of the village to visit the oldest lady, who is 105 years old and is one of the first inhabitant of the village. We listened to their story and were moved to tears. I couldn't imagine how hard  life would be until I learned from the people who live there.

I am glad that we were able to reach out to them. And I truly admire and appreciate what Ms. Nga has brought to the village and has been doing for the young generation here. I can see a lighter and brighter future is coming to the village and these young kids in a very near future for there are Ms. Nga and people with good hearts who are always reaching to them.

Charity Event - August 2007

Finally the time is here and now. Our Từ Thiện Tâm Từ group will have a trip to Định Quán, Đồng Nai this coming Sunday  to give donations to Hoàng Tử Bé School of Homeless Children and to a group of 30 kiddo and teenage shepherds.

This past weekend, my parents already went there to check out the place as well as to get to know the needs of those people there. They said that this time we are going to give things to poor kids and a few households in the area. I'm quite excited to go on the trip and to meet with the children there. I'm preparing some games to play with them... I hope they will participate wholeheartedly.

I'll update more with the story and some pictures next week. If any of you wants to join the trip or donate anything, please feel free to contact me.
